In an interview talking city cuts for our neighbouring Toronto, the mayor has targeted the Toronto Public Library. Within weeks local branches could be closed and some or all of the Library’s operation could be privatized. He commented that he had more libraries in his neighbourhood than Tim Horton shops. Horrified and offended? So was Margaret Atwood. Here’s how she took on the Mayor in defense of Toronto libraries.

The book is dead?
I don’t think so, but attendees at the Writers’ League of Texas Agents Conference got an earful after sitting in on publishing strategist Jane Friedman’s keynote lunch speech, “Is the Book Dead? Who Cares!”
